Debi
Being active has completely transformed Debi’s life. In the past she was the self-confessed ‘poster girl for being inactive’ and now she’s quite literally a ‘poster girl for being active’!
"I run because it‘s a great way to meet people and enjoy a bit of me time.”
By Kerry Marie, 44, from Garston, Liverpool
Kerry Marie often found her busy life completely exhausting until she found the confidence to join her local running club. This has helped her make some beautiful new friendships and given her more energy to have fun with her four kids.
Kerry was so tired after work and looking after her kids that she didn’t want to exercise. The thought of it was so unappealing; she even struggled to run for the bus. But Kerry decided to make a positive change to her life and achieved a remarkable transformation - changing her diet and losing over 5 stone.
Kerry found that being active actually increased her energy levels and made her feel so much better about her personal wellbeing. So from her first race - a 3 mile run for Sports Relief - she has now completed over 20 races including 5 and 10k and her first half marathon! She also runs with her children to raise money for good causes and will be running her second half marathon this year.
Now she’s full of drive and determination to keep going and continue to enjoy all the benefits that come with her new, more active lifestyle - including better mood, a slimmer figure, more friends and regular compliments on how she’s lost weight and looks so much better. Kerry feels like a new woman these days and has treated herself to a new wardrobe to match!
“People often say they don’t have the time, but it’s all about making time when you can. I felt the same way when I was looking after my four children, but finding time to get active has been absolutely brilliant for me. Some classes I do even have a crèche too, which is a great help for busy mums who want to look after themselves as well as their kids. I’d say don’t be afraid to give it a go – I was worried I’d be laughed at and left behind – instead I was included and have made loads of new supportive friends – which is so important; you do not need to ever feel alone on this journey because there is so much support out there so my advice is to grab it with both hands. I felt the benefits from day one. I would never go back to how I was before getting active now!”
